Teachers College Reading and Writing Project: Two Days Into the Homegrown Writing Institute

Wow.  Wow is all I can really say right now.  I have so much on my mind and so much to write that I need to let it all sink in a little bit before I am able to write a true reflection about my experience with The Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) homegrown writing institute.  These past two days have provided the best professional development that I've received in my 12 years as an elementary school teacher.  Plus, I have two more days to go!  Not only am I learning as a teacher, but I am also learning as a writer.  Best yet, I am learning alongside 90% of my school staff and over 100 Palo Alto teachers.  Our students are so lucky.  This workshop is the boost that our writing instruction desperately needed.  I can't wait to bring everything I'm learning to my classroom.  Stay tuned for a full reflection within the next week or so!  For now, here are a few pictures.

Using a story mountain to plan my narrative writing piece.

My narrative draft: Swim from Alcatraz.  This was extremely
difficult to write!  I can now empathize with my students
who have a tough time getting started with their writing.
